Hi Grizzlies!
Since I sent Connie Surmeier's article out about the commemorative coin, I have received a plethora of questions.
Yes, the coins are in color. (see above) but we changed the color on one of the bear paws. The pads of the bear paws are the 2 zeros in 100th. Originally one was orange and one was black. That did not look right, it was voted to make both bear paws black & to look sharper.
The coins are the size of a half dollar. They are as heavy or a little heavier than a half dollar and come in a clear, no-color plastic case to preserve it. These are, very definitely, collector's items. We ordered 300 and need about 116 for the graduating class. They will go on sale Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Fruitland Spring Fair. It is a beautiful keepsake for a mere $10.00.
Some FHSAA Board members are taking orders for the coins for their classmates, so if you want one, maybe you should send in an order to a friend, relative or classmate who lives here!

For the year of 2012..........
Hey Fruitland Alumni, Are you represented?
As a Fruitland High School Graduate, you fondly remember walking through the building and looking for your graduating class' photograph. For as many years as anyone can remember, it was a tradition that all graduating members had their picture on the upstairs hallway. However, now we have had to start from scratch in obtaining the photographs from 1912 to 1986. Luckily an FHS graduate is willing to make duplicate copies of the originals and for a cost of $100.00 you may sponsor your class, or one of the older classes whose graduates are no longer with us. We are encouraging every graduate to step up and work to make the collection complete. So.......How can you help?
Please consider makeing a donation of $100.00. If you are unable to do this on your own, please consider speaking with others in your class about passing the had and either sponsoring your class or adopting a group of upperclassmen.
The following classes of pictures are still missing:
1923, 24, 25, 27 and 29 as well as 1932, 33, 34, 35, 37, and 38
1942, 43, 44, 46, 47, 48, and 49. Also 1951, 1964, 66 and 67 as well as
1971, 73, 74, 75, 77, and 78
If interested in helping please contact us here at:http: //www.fruitlandoldeschool.org/

Consider: 19th "Annual All School Reunion" and the
Fruitland High School's 101th Celebration:
Details on all the activities available here soon!
* Suggestions for the Reunion? Just send us and e mail of what you would like.
-----------------------------------------------------
+ "WE WELCOME YOUR SUGGESTIONS" +
You are all alumni of the Fruitland Schools, this is your reunion and we welcome your suggestions. We have made several major changes /i mprovements in the reunion starting in 2005 ~ the main one being moving the banquet to the air-conditioned banquet facilities at the Four Rivers Cultural Center. We added a professional caterer, tablecloths, china, silverware, comfortable chairs, a no-host bar, dance floor and live music for all to enjoy!
All the alumni were thrilled with that change. Over the years we have moved the registration from the lobby of the new high school, to the science and home ec rooms at our old high school, (now The Old School Community Center), to the Fruitland City Park which was our grade school play grounds. People like the registration on the playground / city park the best, so the FHSAA Council will continue to hold registration and other events there, in the the future.
We got a lot of positive feed-back about the Nu Acres gathering and the alumni are looking forward to the next one. Visiting alumni should take time to drive around out there and see how Nu Acres has changed. If you would like to submit a name for the "In the Spotlight" page of the Grizzly Gazzette, please do so. Give us the name, graduating class and what this person accomplished. Since that column was added to the Grizzly Gazzette in 2005, we have honored alumni who are/were in the NFL and NASA. Jordan Gross is still on the offensive line of the Carolina Panthers. Your suggestions are encouraged.

Denny Croner wants to hear from all FHS Veterans. If you have not registered, please do so. Web-master Dick Groves can put a registration form on the Web-site for your convenience. It has been suggested that Dick interview our veterans on camera and make a DVD that would be made available to all alumni. Biographies and service histories can be submitted by relatives of deceased veterans and those can be added to the DVD by the narrator. If you have any other suggestions as to what the veterans could do as a reunion activity, memorial to FHS veterans, etc., please notify us. We must all honor, respect, show our appreciation for and be proud of our FHS veterans.
Some have suggested that possibly the athletes, cheer leaders, majorettes, band members, etc. might like to get together in groups on Friday of the reunion. If so, go for it! How about returning teachers? Would you like to get together? If you have any suggestions for improving or adding to our reunion, . Let us know. Your FHSAA Council wants to please you ~ our alumni. ------------------------------------------------------------

WEB SITE UPDATES QUESTIONED:
It has been noted the FHS web site is not updated every time someone logs on.
.................Please take a moment to think about this: We can not put any
NEW information on the site, if we DON'T RECEIVE IT. There are several e mail address
on this Alumni site for YOUR convenience of getting information to us.
Please use those to get us the information you would like to have put on this site.
If you didn't send it, and were expecting someone else to do it, you might want to
send it in, just in case. Two or more e mails of the same info are better than none at all.
Remember: There are 9 pages total on this site, not just the HOME PAGE.

An important message from Konnie Baines, Executive Director of
The Olde School Community Center
A PLEA FOR HELP
Alma Mater, Inc. AKA The Olde School Community Center has seen the worst of times and also the best of times financially. In the beginning finances were short but the renovation continued with fundraisers and personal donations. The most successful fundraisers were the sale of auditorium seats and sponsorship of class pictures hung in the halls. A plaque is engraved and attached to either a seat or picture depending on what one chooses to sponsor. There are several auditorium seats still available at $100.00 per seat and 44 class pictures at $100.00 each. If your class is not in the hallway, no one has sponsored it.
For the past year and a half, The Olde School has run in the black; however, due to hard economic times several of the tenants have either quit their businesses or moved to other locations. This has left the bottom line in the red for the last three months. There are still renovations needed, but no funds. Other projects waiting to be completed include the display cases (old locker spaces), and stairwells (both east and west sides)
The Community Center is a 501C3 non-profit entity run by volunteers. All income goes directly to renovating and operating the building. In order to survive, The Olde School needs your help. A USDA loan has put new restrooms in the main hallway, fixed the roof on every part except the auditorium, and has provided opportunity for bids on handicap accessibility. This loan has to be paid back.
Thank you to all those who attended this meeting, as it shows your interest in helping meet the needs of a beautiful historic building. We appreciate all your sharing and ideas.
Connie Bains - Old School Community Center of Fruitland
